We have now spent over three years in our "new" home and love
being so close to work and the children's schools. Our neighborhood is
a mix of older people who have already raised their children, to younger
couples just starting out, to people like us. Just through the fence are
two families with children in similar ages as our children. Many of our
neighbors teach or have taught at BYU. Some are entrepreneurs. Some are
musicians. Some are artists. We love being in the midst of such talented
people who set great examples for us.
We have been blessed abundantly by the Lord and thrive within a wonderful
network of family, friends and neighbors who support us in our daily journeys.
The main family activities for this year are doing whatever it takes to
help each other out in work, school, sports and church activities. If
we play our cards right, we may end up on a real family vacation this
summer!
Michael and Yvette
Michael Sr. teaches three philosophy classes at BYU (Ancient Greek and
Medieval Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, and Philosophy of Language) and
two classes of Ethics and Values at UVSC. His "new" study interest
centers around the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Her philosophy, "in essence,
is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the
moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest
activity, and reason as his only absolute." Michael teaches a gospel
doctrine class at his local church. He enjoys reading, researching, and
collecting books.
Yvette has just left her position as an instructional design consultant
at the Center for Instructional Design
after five years of full-time employment at Brigham Young University.
She is now the Content Acquisition Director at Provo
Labs. Yvette works with a great team of talented people who "focus
on building companies that combine content and community and technology
in innovative ways to solve problems for our customers." Yvette works
with the youth in her local church.
| Chanel Chanel just finished
a season of girls' basketball at Meridian where her team made first
in their region. The state tourney was fun for her, but her team
lost two games in a rown which put them out of the running. Chanel
just placed first in poetry recitation at a local gathering of schools.
Chanel is a voracious reader, and when she is not socializing with
friends, she has her nose in a book. |
Estée Estée was recently in
the Meridian Middle School play Into the Woods where she
played the part of Jack's mother. Estée loves her biology
class and it hot on the trail of learning all she can about ebola.
Her basketball team was undefeated in season play and is looking
for a win of the tournament. Estée has a great group of friends
who get together often to play basketball, night games, air soft,
and board games. |
| Austen Austen is the computer
gamer of the family. He can explain in minute detail all of the
creatures in his games, their weapons, what the weapons do, what
the terrain looks like, how the strategy is executed, and how he
will defend his players. He is a wiz at math and loves to read.
He has recently joined the church choir. He still amazes us with
what he creates with legos. |
Michael Michael wants to be a world traveler
when he grows up. He loves geography and thinking about all of the
different places he will visit. Michael is also a math wiz and a
budding artist. He loves to draw. He also takes good care of his
little brother, Adam, and often plays legos with him. Michael has
a quick mind and loves to make jokes. His laugh is infectious and
his smile has a cute mischievous twist! |
| Anna Anna loves to talk
and and we enjoy conversing with her on a myriad of subjects. She
loves to play with her friends and write letters to the people she
loves. Anna just recently adopted two little stuffed animal friends
named Clarinda and Gladdes. She carries them with her whenever she
goes out to play. She also made some clothes for them with the help
of Charlotte, our next-door neighbor. |
Adam and Jacob
Adam's favorite activity is playing with legos. He loves to build
his bionicles and has his two older brothers as official lego instructors.
Adam loves to tease Anna and Jacob. Jacob is very affectionate and
loves to be with his mother and father as they go about their daily
activities. He likes to mimick what his brothers and sisters do.
He has quite an extensive vocabulary and loves to talk.
